Principal’s welcome

WELCOME TO CALLIOPE STATE SCHOOL 2016!!
What an amazing start to what is shaping up to be a great year at Calliope State School. Last week we welcomed 89 prep students to our school for the very first time and I’m proud to say that everyone (parents included) seem to be settling into the school and its routines very nicely. While this number of enrolments into prep is a little down on predictions and expectations, the school has made a decision to fund a teacher to maintain our current staffing of 26 classes. This is of course pending our official enrolment figures remaining stable until the magical Day 8 (Friday 5 Feb).
Construction Projects
As you may be aware, some significant projects have already been underway over the holiday break. New covered walkways and a new modular classroom building have been installed towards the back of the school and I’m please to say that, after some delays and concerns, and with some not-so-gentle persuasion, the classes have been able to get in and get settled into the year very nicely.

This year we will also see our major expansion project underway in preparation for the 2017 school year. We have already had the removal of D Block classrooms and the Principal’s Residence to make way for the new administration and classroom block. This will be an exciting new addition to our school which will “future-proof” the school for continued growth. With construction not due to commence until early May, we will welcome the reprieve from construction for a couple of months.

School Priorities
This year, we at Calliope SS will be narrowing in on our goal to improve student learning outcomes through the focus on three key priority areas. Curriculum, Pedagogy (the process of teaching) and Wellbeing will provide focussed attention on improvement in our school. Parents can assist in helping our students achieve the best possible outcomes through heeding our school vision.

“Everyone at Calliope State School is working together to ensure that every day, in every classroom, every student is learning and achieving.” Parents can help with this by ensuring that students are prepared for school with all the necessary equipment, dressed in the correct, full school uniform and attending school every day. I thank you in advance for your support.
I look forward to working with you as we move through a stellar 2016.
